ADVISEMENT:

1. This mod is designed for long term play therefore do not expect a fast paced game by turn 30 as the AI is designed to expand and research at a moderate pace.
2. Although all AI have built in bonuses for research and resource mining, do not expect them to rapidly expand their empires. By design they will slowly grow their empires.
3. The Star Trek Mod must follow the rules and physics of Space Empires IV. Therefore do not expect the mod to be pure Star Trek in any form. Although we have tried to make the mod as star trek as possible, some things such as warp drive and what not will not be like they are in the Star Trek universe.

1. USE MOUNTS! - For Propulsion. - They reduce and scale the Warp Nacelle and War Core components.
2. USE 4 Warp Nacelles on Colony Ship! - If you read the abilities for each ship hull they will tell you if you need more warp nacelles.
3. UPDATE SE IV to 1.91 or later versions.

5. Remote mining is vital to your economy.
6. Mounts scale components ... Mounts scale components ... Mounts scale components ... So Use MOUNTS when appropriate.
7. Supplies in this mod are designed to be consumed. It is important that you consider this when you design ships. A ship with warp core X will use more supplies if it is ordered to move its maximum range in one turn. Keep in mind that all because your ship can go 10 sectors does not mean you should go 10 sectors. The further you move the more supplies you use up. Read below for more details.
8. Remote mining ships require 16 to 26 life supports. That is 10 regular life support components and up to six or more REMOTE MINING components. Remote Mining Components have life support abilities built in to them.
9. Remote mining and Barge ships are not good ships to be putting weapons on. They have a negative abilities that make them pretty much useless as weapons platforms.
10. You can only added an Expansion Construction Yard by {UPGRADING} an Expansion Construction Yard Project.

Quick Star Games

QUICK START DEFAULT DESIGN BUG.

Here is the method for over coming the Quick Start default design bug. While this appears to be a bug with SE IV, and not the mod, we are still trying to find a way cope with it. In the mean time here is a revised method that will help human players over come the design bug.

In order to have the Design Minister design ships that have all of the required components do this:

1. Once the game is loaded make all of the designs obsolete
2. Activate the Design Minister
3. Process the turn.

The minister will design correct designs for the next turn. This method worked for both minor and Major races including the Federation.

GAME SET UP
---------------------

1. When setting up your game know that the mod is best played with the following settings:

Racial Points: 5000 
Technology Cost: LOW

Computer Player Difficulty: MEDIUM
Computer Player Bonus: LOW or MEDIUM ** Read NOTE 2 below ** Set to HIGH will make things very difficult for you.

2. Consider turning OFF the following technology to slightly speed up your game turns:
a) Fighters 
b) Carriers

(Optional)
c) Mines
d) Shuttles 

3. It is also suggested that you turn OFF Sabotage. This way if you set up your empire you can optimize your Cunning points by reducing them to 50% and applying them toward other characteristics. 
4. By setting Events to "NONE" or "LOW" you can take the Un-lucky advanced racial trait and gain extra racial points to be used for characteristics or advanced racial traits.
5. If the monsters are too powerful and you do not want them in your game, simply remove their folder from the RACE folder. The Game will not load them if they are not in the Race Folder.


NOTE 1:
Play By Web Players Please Read:

Advanced Racial Trait - "PBW Advanced Research" was added to the mod in order to speed up PBW games. That this trait is free, and I strongly suggest that it be stipulated in any PBW*, EBEM**, or PBIM*** games that this Advanced Trait be used by all or not at all. To use it when others do not is considered cheating therefore all game hosts must consider this as a mandatory rule.

NOTE 2:
Single Player Games

Advanced Racial Trait
Mild Research Boost / Medium Research Boost / Heavy Research Boost - Single Players can set the Computer Player Bonus to low or medium and then give these trait to one or more of the AI's. By doing so you will be giving the AI a boost in research and an advantage over you. In this way you can make a more unique game for yourself by giving each race its own level for research boosting. For example: Give the Heavy Research Boost trait to the Borg and they will research faster than you and say an AI with the Mild trait. These settings will provide for a more unique type of game play whereas the AI players will research at different levels in stead of one size fits all.

Research:

Research is vital to your empire. It is advisable that you consider your research choices wisely. Here are some tips for early game play.
1. Research Basic Science - Gains access to Physics and other technology areas
2. Research Physics Level I - Gains access to Warp Technology
3. Research Beam Weapons to Level 5 - Gains access to energy weapons 
4. Research Warp Technology Level 5 - Gains access to faster engines
5. Research Construction to Level 2 - Gains access to remote mining
6. Research "Race" Ship Construction to Level 4 - Gains access to larger ship hulls

You will want to start researching Warp Technology, Remote Mining, and Energy Weapons early in the game in order to gain the advantage.

Supply Usage / Generation Scale
---------------------

In Star Trek if you max your engines out, use all available distance per turn, you will consume your supplies at a greater rate than if you used less than your maximum distance per turn. Ships running at maximum distance per turn with a Transwarp Core III, 2 Nacelle V's will consume 1300kt of supply in one turn with a distance of 13. This effectively gives you two full turns at maximum warp (Maximum warp being the full distance of the engine - 13 in this case).

Now if you had 4 Bussard Collector X, generating 720kt worth of supplies each turn, in conjunction with 2 Ram Scoop III's, generating 480kt in supplies each turn, you will be producing 1200kt worth of supplies each turn. 

Level = Tech level
Move = Movement bonus
Uses = Amount of supplies used per move
NacT x2 = Nacelle Total Times 2 (Because two warp nacelles are required.) 
NacT = Nacelle Total
CombT = Combined Total of Warp Core and Nacelle supply usage per move.
Speed = How many moves total
PerTurn = Total Supply usage per turn mulitplied by speed and CombT.
Store = How much supplies each warp core stores.
Dist = Distance in squars
Max = Maximum components allowed
Gen = Supply Generation per turn
TPT = Total Per Turn
